The Invisalign Assessment Process

Medical & Dental History Overview

Your dentist will start by reviewing your relevant medical and dental history. This includes going over your dental records and your general medical history.

The details captured in this review, in combination with your oral exam and dental imaging (as outlined below) will help your dentist determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment.

Oral Examination

Your dentist will perform an oral examination to identify any issues that may not have been apparent in your dental records. This process will include:

  • A physical examination of your teeth and soft tissues
  • Dental impressions
  • X-ray imaging

Treatment Plan Discussion

Based on your medical history and oral exam, your dentist will determine if Invisalign treatment will meet your needs. If you are a candidate for Invisalign, your dentist will send your impressions and treatment plan to Align Technologies so that they can create your custom aligners.

Your dentist will discuss the details of your customized Invisalign treatment plan with you, including your role in the treatment process, the duration of treatment, appointment scheduling, payment considerations, and any items you may have questions about.

Scheduling Your First Appointment

You should be able to schedule your first treatment appointment directly after your assessment. The initial fitting for your aligners may take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, so make the appointment with that timeline in mind.
